Official State Sites     Top

• Washington Fish and Wildlife Department and Game Commission
• Weekender report containing the latest information about hunting/fishing/recreation in Washington.

Clubs and Organizations   Top

• NAFA: North American Falconry Association. The national umbrella organization. Membership is strongly encouraged. Contains a page of links to every other state club.
• Oregon Falconers Association - our charming neighbors to the south
• California Hawking Club - their videos are worth watching.
• Women Hunters - General hunting info, support, stories, guided tours, and other deals just for women.

Listservs, Forums, and Groups    Top    The denotes a Yahoo group, and membership/registration may be required.

• Raptor Search  - specifically for Lost and Found raptor alerts.
• Gamehawking - discusses techniques and strategies for hunting with birds of prey
• Hawk-l - the most active list for falconry. Moderated. Available in digest form.
• Kestrelfans - a Yahoo Power Group dedicated to fans of kestrel falconry. Excellent advice and support; multiple daily postings, great images, trap plans, etc. All kestrels (American, common, etc) all the time.
• On-Wing - Yahoo Group for women involved in falconry.
• Falconry Dogs - Group devoted to falconry dogs' training, care, handling, hunting tactics & equipment design.

• www.understanding-goshawks.com - a new book about the psyche and training of the "ultimate bird of chase", the goshawk, written by Darryl A. Perkins.
• Raptor's Nest - good classifieds.
• www.flyhawks.com - a site about David T. Moran's recent falconry book, "Life on the Wing", about his adventures with birds of prey.
• Cabela's - Outdoor equipment & clothing. Don't miss the Bargain Cave, their ongoing clearance sale. Sign up for the newsletter for online-only deals. Sizes to 3X (women's) and 5X (men's) plus sagebrush and conifer patterned camo.
• And, for those of you who've recently won the lottery and or can otherwise afford the $3000 price tag, here's some actual satellite tracking systems that weigh as little as 9.5 grams.

Other Reference Sites  Top

• www.themodernapprentice.com - a great resource, very well written and organized.
• Clicker training (operant conditioning) for birds.
• Raptor Information System - A HUGE database of citations of information. Over 40,000 references with over 4,000 keywords. This isn't the information itself, but if you wanted to know where that article Frank Beebe wrote about keeping gulls off airports with falcons was published (1980, NAFA Journal), or if you need everything ever written about gyrfalcons, you can find it here. Note that the Search Database link is neatly hidden in the upper right corner.
• BirdGuides - A searchable site about all kinds of birds. Use the drop-down menu to select "Falcons" or "Hawks, Vultures, and Eagles".  Contains identification, habitat, distribution, and population information, plus pictures.
